Before You Start

Congratulations and welcome to Seattle University! Before you arrive, complete the steps below to avoid common issues and delays for international students. If you have any questions, contact us and we’ll be happy to help!

Contact your Enrollment Advisor to discuss all your required steps and ensure you have all required paperwork.

After you receive the electronic copy of your I-20, complete the following steps before booking your visa appointment:
  1. Schedule a free visa information and preparation session with your personal Enrollment Advisor.
  2. Check that the details on your I-20 are correct (including your date of birth) and make sure your name is the same as it appears on your passport.
  3. Prepare the documents you will need to take to the embassy when attending your visa interview.

    • Letter of Acceptance
    • SEVIS I-901 Fee Receipt

Original Documents:

    • Academic transcripts, sealed in an envelope and certified
    • Academic certificates
    • English proficiency test scores
    • Bank statement
After you complete the above steps, you should apply for your visa as soon as possible. It requires an interview with the US Embassy and can sometimes take several weeks to schedule.
    1. Complete your visa application.
    2. Pay your I-901 (SEVIS) fee.
    3. Visit usembassy.gov to learn more about scheduling your visa appointment, what to expect when you arrive, and the documentation you need to take with you.
    4. Notify your enrollment advisor of the date and embassy location of your visa appointment.

Flywire by Peer Transfer: Please visit the Seattle University Shorelight flywire portal to complete the transfer process. Please note that you cannot use a US credit card or US bank account.

mySeattleU:
Navigate to the Redhawk Admissions Portal to activate your Seattle U account. Read more about the Seattle University Account set up here.

Confirm Your Contact Information
Review your contact details in your Admission Portal and update any information that needs to be changed.

Upload Your Campus Card Photo
Your Campus Card will be given to you upon your arrival to Seattle U and will grant you access to campus buildings, your meal plan, and printing on campus.
Upload your photo in your New Student Checklist.

Upload your Passport and Visa
Add a copy of your passport and visa to your Admissions Portal.

Official Transcripts

All incoming SeattleU students are required to submit official transcripts to Seattle University. Read instructions on how to submit your final transcripts in the Admissions Portal.

All transcripts must be sent to Seattle University via mail, online, or in person.

  • Electronic Transcripts – Seattle University accepts transcripts through Electronic Parchment and National Student Clearinghouse. Official electronic transcripts should be sent to admissions@seattleu.edu by the issuing institution.
  • Paper Transcripts – Official print transcripts should be sent directly to the Admissions Office by the issuing institution.

Anticipated College Credit Earned Form

This form will help inform your Academic Advisor about any college credits that you have already earned from another college or through Running Start, and/or AP/IB/Cambridge exam scores.

 

Request Disability Accommodations – Optional

Students who are requesting academic, housing, and meal plan accommodations for the first time at Seattle University are required to complete the New Student Application via myDS and meet with Disability Services before receiving services. Read more about the application process here.

Health Forms:

  • Meningitis Agreement: Washington State Law requires that information on meningococcal disease must be provided to every student prior to class registration. Visit your SeattleU account to review submit and your meningitis agreement.

  • Measles Vaccination and Immunization Records: All undergraduate students are required to provide proof of immunity to measles prior to arrival.
  • Read more here for details on immunization requirements.
    Submit your information via the Seattle U Online Health Immunization Form.

FERPA Disclosure Form:

Complete this form prior to your arrival.

ALEKS Math Placement test

The ALEKS Math Placement Assessment is required for all first-year students.
This test is used to determined your current math skills. Your Academic Advisor will use your test score to place you into your initial math course.

Seattle U undergraduate students are required to live on campus for their first two years of enrollment. Graduate students are permitted to live off campus.
It is highly recommended that you make housing arrangements before arriving on campus. You can fill our your Housing application in the Seattle U Housing Portal. Please be mindful of housing deadlines.

Students will begin their orientation virtually prior to their arrival to and participation in the in-person orientation at Seattle U. Read more about Orientation structure here.

You can access your Orientation Portal by logging into your Admissions Portal and clicking on the “Orientation Portal” button.

Asynchronous Orientation – Required

  • Online Orientation Modules
    The Online Orientation Modules can be accessed in Canvas. These modules will give you an introduction to the university and its resources. Completing these modules is required prior to arrival at Seattle U.
  • ‘Voices for Change’ Modules
    In addition to the Online Orientation Modules, students are required to complete the Voices For Change modules. These modules are designed to promote a healthier and safer campus environment for everyone and will cover topics including inclusive community, sexual misconduct, bystander intervention, alcohol and other drugs, hazing, and bullying. You will receive an email from “Get Inclusive” with instructions to access your learning modules.

Synchronous Orientation – Required

  • Attend Virtual Orientation Events
    Students will attend virtual orientation events in the months leading up to the arrival and in-person orientation at Seattle U. Events will include academic advising overviews, course registration workshops, student clubs socials, and more.
  • International Student Welcome Workshop (In-Person Orientation)
    International Student Welcome Workshop will begin in person one week before the first day of classes. Students will have the opportunity to meet other international students and will be given information about life on campus at Seattle U, services at the International Student Center, details about managing their student immigration status, and international student insurance.
  • Early Bird Immersions – Optional
    International students will have the option to participate in Early Bird Immersions. These excursions are optional and are designed to offer the newest class of Redhawks the opportunity to come to connect with other new students who share their passions and interests. Each experience focuses on a different theme, such as outdoor adventure, community service, identity exploration, and academic success. Note: Some of these immersion programs come at an additional cost. Read more here.

Career Premium

Career Premium helps international students apply for remote internships and gain real-life work experience to boost their resumes.

  • Certificates and training: Attend online professional bootcamps before your virtual internship starts. Gain hands-on experience once you officially begin by contributing to projects alongside industry experts. If you are interested in certifications, Career Premium now offers unlimited access to training courses that lead to certification in Amazon Web Services, Java, Microsoft Azure, and Python, among many other in-demand skills.
  • Coaching and mentorship: Receive direct guidance from career coaches and industry experts on career exploration, skill training, and professional development.
